Hypothyroidism is indeed a silent killer.
Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) is a condition in where the gland has the absence of important hormone production. Thyroid hormones are produced by the thyroid gland. This gland is located in the lower part of the neck, below the Adam's apple.
Hypothyroidism is an epidemic problem that affects more than 100 million people in the US alone so maybe we all can make an estimate of its sufferings in the world and our doctors confuse it for heart disease, cancer, stroke, infertility issues, etc.
Symptoms of hypothyroidism include fatigue, sudden increase in weight, and defections problems leading to constipation. There are also attacks of various aches, skin that is dry, sinus issues such as colds, dry hair, unexplained retention of fluid in the body, difficulty in thinking and depression.
The two major causes of death are heart disease and cancer; therefore people ignore hypothyroidism. Some 70 years back, in 1930’s Dr.Broda Barnes clearly proved the connection of hypothyroidism with heart disease. Nearly a century ago, scientist Otto Warburg won the noble prize for proving hypothyroidism’s role in the development of cancer. Also diabetes caused through cancer is the 7th leading cause of death. Cholesterol is also related to hypothyroidism
Our body cells highly rely on thyroid hormone because without them our cells won’t produce the energy we need in our body. Every cell and organ of our body will fail to work if thyroid gets impaired.
Our thyroid is responsible for controlling and regulating a large number of functions within our body including:
- Metabolism and Heat Production
- Circulatory System and Blood Volume
- Muscular Health
- Nerve Health
- Digestive Health
- Health of Every Organ
- Health of Every Tissue
- Health of Every Cell
Earlier hypothyroidism was treated on the basis of basic metabolic rate. In late 1940’s came the protein bound iodine test which claimed to be more accurate.
Just by popping the pills we can’t evade thyroid from its root. Treatments available today are inefficient to kill the disease.
Doctors test hypothyroidism by
- Thyroid stimulating hormone test
- Thyroid blood testing
- Monitoring your temperature and pulse.
Changing our diet can be a game changer. Diet plays a very crucial role. We need vitamins, minerals and nutrients to regulate hormones in our body. Avoid foods that have negative effects on thyroid like soy, polyunsaturated fats, etc.
We can check hypothyroidism at our home just in 10 minutes or less. The most effective way to check is by monitoring our body temperature and pulse three times in a day – early morning temperature, post breakfast temperature and afternoon temperature. They are the most accurate indicators if checked properly. Low body temperature is mostly an indicator to this problem. The slower the pulse, the fewer nutrients are getting into our body.
Read the morning basal temperature, if it is not more than 36.5C then then you are hypothyroid. . If the morning basal temperature is more than 36.5 C, then record the post breakfast temperature and pulse. If the post breakfast temperature is lower than the morning temperature then you are hypothyroid and if no then check if your post breakfast temperature rises to close 37C, if no then you are hypothyroid and if yes then record the 3pm afternoon temperature and pulse. If the temperature is not close to 37C, you are hypothyroid but if the temperature is close to 37C, then observe the recorded pulse measurements. If the pulse is not constantly around 80-85 bpm then you are hypothyroid. But if the pulse is constantly around 80-85 bpm then you have some good news, your thyroid function is good.
So take action now and start testing yourself today at the convenience of your home.
